I love Divergent and all the factions that come with it! This is a brief summary of all the factions, the factionless, and of corse what it means to be a divergent.

 

Dauntless (no nickname)

This is where all the brave and fearless end up. They stand out in a crowd, with their black clothing, unnatural hair colours, and outgoing, adventure craving lifestyle. Everyone who wants to become Dauntless has to go through the initation process(even if you were born Dauntless). This process starts with you jumping on and off a moving train and has many more challenges to come. If you pass initation you are Dauntless, and are the army for the rest of the factions.

 

Abnegation (stiffs)

Abengation is where all the  selfless and caring people go(not saying that is you are not in abnegation you are a stone cold, unfeeling machine, but abnegation pride themselves on their care for others). They are not usually noticed, but when they are you can pick them out by their gray cloths, the fact that the walk with their heads down, and they try not to draw attention to themselves. The abnegation initiation process is not as intense as the dauntless one, you have to complete 30 days of  community service then you are abnegation, and your new main priority is helping others above yourself.

Erudite (know it all’s)

Erudite pride themselves on being smart and knowledgeable. You can pick out an Eurdite in a crowd by their confident way of walking, and by their constant chats about books and newspapers; always in pursuit of knowledge. This faction provides most of the city’s librarians, doctors, scientists, and teachers.Most technological advances are due to Erudite.As a faction they keep records of the city and the factions. The initation process is mostly unknown, but it is known to require a really hard test.

 

Amity (softies)

The Amity are known as the peaceful ones, who hate conflict of any kind. They are typically on the outskirts of the city, and can be identified by their brightly coloured clothing. The initaion process, is mostly unknown, the only thing the other factions know about it is that it involves picking fruit and singing songs. Unlike all the other factions amity has no “leader” but when big decisions have to be made they choose a representative.

 

Candor (smart mouths)

This is where all the honest people end up, they don’t only tell the truth, but they are also really good at detecting lies from the other factions. In my opinion the only problem with candor would be that sometimes the truth hurts, and you can make enemies by not telling people what they want to hear. The way to distinguish candor would be to look for black and white clothing (they belive that black and white have nothing to hide). The intation process is not something I would like to go through. The process begins with you having to detect lies, and ends with you having to spill all of your secrets (they belive doing this will make it so you have no secrets left).

 

The Factionless

The factionless are the people who did not complete their initiation, or who did want to spend the rest of their life in the faction they chose (once you pick you cannot change your mind). The way to pick these people out in a crowd is they look disheveled, and separated from the rest of the community. They live in poverty and discomfort. Most of the factionless will do the jobs no one else wants to do (garbage collectors, factory workers ect.) to earn a little bit of money so they can live.

 

 

Divergent

Being divergent is a very rare and dangerous thing to be, this is because a Divergent mind cannot be controlled or made  to a certain way of thinking, faction leaders are terrified of what Divergent people are capable of. Fun facts: the majority of divergents come from abnegation and the majority of the factionless are divergent (they could not adapt to the way of thinking their chosen faction wanted them to so they were outlawed, and became factionless)
